Project Spotlight: Emerald Trail

by | Oct 8, 2024 | Community, Project Highlights, Transportation

The City of Jacksonville marked a significant milestone on May 6 with the ribbon-cutting of the much-anticipated Emerald Trail. This inaugural stretch, a little over a mile long, features walking and biking paths, relaxing swings, and an observation deck—an achievement years in the making.

This newly unveiled trail is just the beginning. It’s the first of nine segments that will eventually form a sprawling 30-mile greenway, seamlessly connecting 14 neighborhoods, 16 schools, two colleges, and 21 parks throughout Jacksonville’s urban core. Linking historic neighborhoods to downtown and spanning the North and South Bank river walks, the Emerald Trail promises to be a transformative force in the city.

Spearheaded by the City of Jacksonville in collaboration with the nonprofit Groundwork Jacksonville, the Emerald Trail extends beyond recreation. It is poised to catalyze social and economic development.

The scope of our work on this project included installing lighting and new services for the lights, with six different types of fixtures (four mounted on poles). All fixtures emit a consistent white light, enhancing visibility and safety along the path.

As a pivotal piece of urban infrastructure, the Emerald Trail will connect Jacksonville in previously unimaginable ways, reflecting a bold step toward a healthier, more vibrant community.
